Match Report

July 27th –¬†Masters 4 Hawks 4

Wow what a game. It had everything – great goals, super saves, a big slice of bad luck and some awesome end to end football.

Masters had by far the better of the 1st half. Ryan smashed in two outstanding 25 yards strikes, taking him up to eight for the season (joint top scorer) and he seems to be having his own goal of the season competition!

Sam planted in a great header and we went in at half time 3-1 up. Hawks goal came from a near post rocket that Joe got down to, but it was too powerful and squirmed through his hands in to the back of the net.

The second half was much more even – as Hawks pressed further up the pitch and eventually their pressure paid off and they got it back to 3-3. Their equalizer was a great volley that flew in to the top corner.

With about 15 to go Sam diverted a cross in to the Hawks goal and all we had to do was hold on for a few minutes to claim our first victory over Hawks in more than 3 years.

Sadly it was not to be. At the very end of the game a Hawks player mishit a cross and despite Jeff’s best effort to clear off the line it snuck in and we ended 4 goals apiece.

A great effort from all lads. Ryan took MOTM match for his great performance in midfield capped with two outstanding goals, but Steve deserves a mention for playing 70 minutes on his comeback game after weeks out with broken ribs – and he put a hell of a shift!

Since our nadir moment against Otaki a few weeks ago we have played much better football, showed courage on the ball and ran until there is nothing left in the tank and the results are showing.

Next week we play the KCU Babas in what is often a tough game but one that on current form we are hoping to win.

Up the Masters!
