Top qualifiers Summer Saints have taken out the 2021 Summer 6-a-side Soccer title with an emphatic win over Cuttriss Commandos under lights at Jim Cooke Park. Some blistering goals to Taylor Newman and deft skill from Logan Bly were features in final extended to 30 minute halves. Cuttriss Commandos fought to the end but Saints never look threatened in closing stages of the match.
Earlier, in the Division 2 final, newcomers Coasters were unable to foot it with the experienced OAMND losing 12-3 (16-7 on aggregate) with OAMND goals in this match counting double points as the ‘home’ team. Coasters were unable to press home that advantage the previous week with the game ending a 4-4 draw.
The final brought to conclusion the summer competition which has been running since October with ten teams participating. The Club is once again indebted to Dave Horton for organising the tournament and attending every evening to set up, time keep and convene the competition. Thanks is also due to those that have helped out.
Attention now turns to the winter competition which starts on 10 April, prospective players are encouraged to register as soon as possible. Those interested in coaching or managing a side are asked to contact the Senior Convenor.
